Exhaust technology for new Traxx multi-engine diesel loco

System supplier Eberspächer will become the preferred exhaust technology partner for Bombardier’s new Traxx
multi-engine diesel locomotive. The cooperation agreement between Bombardier Transportation and the Esslingen-
based company covers the development and production of exhaust systems for up to 200 of the new locomotive type.

The Traxx multi-engine platform involves four-engined dieselelectric locomotives. “The decision to use the multi-engine
system instead of one aggregate is also a contribution towards environmental compatibility,” according to Janis Vitins, Director Marketing and Product Planning, Business Unit Locomotives, Bombardier Transportation.

“Our innovative exhaust technology components are a decisive module of modern railway technology and meet
the Emission Standard III B for locomotives,” reports Claus Scheufele, Director Customer Service Center Non-Road at Eberspächer. Delivery of the fi rst locomotives is planned for mid-2013.

According to the company, Eberspächer is one of the leading system developers and suppliers of exhaust technology, vehicle heaters and bus air-conditioning systems worldwide and is also involved in automotive electronics and automotive bus systems for electronic networking in the vehicles.

In 2010, the internationally positioned group of companies, with approximately 5,600 employees, posted sales of over EUR 1.9 billion.
