Estonia: Elektriraudtee to operate new Stadler trains
The Estonian Government decided that the new trains that the state bought will be used only by the state-owned electric commuter train operator Elektriraudtee, although earlier Sebe and Edelaraudtee have shown interest towards operating the new electric and diesel trains too.
Elektriraudtee was chosen because of safety issues and to avoid any legal disputes a contest could spark, which would delay the start of the use of trains.
The 18 electric trains and up to 20 diesel trains from Stadler will be delivered in 2013-2014. Elektriraudtee gets the operating rights of the new trains from 2015.
