EC approves Latvia’s largest infrastructure project

The European Commission has approved Latvia’s large-scale infrastructure development project on Riga’s Krievu Island, moving port activity further away from the city’s centre.

The project will cost EUR 149 Million including EUR 77 Million funded by the Cohesion Fund.
According to the project, four new terminals (with overall length of 1,180 meters) will be constructed on Krievu Island to handle bulk cargo.

New supply roads andd railways will be constructed and telecommunications networks established.
The main project objective is transfer of general cargo, Ro-Ro and dry bulk cargo terminals of Riga port from Andrejosta and Eksportosta, that are located in the vicinity to the historical centre of the city of Riga.
