New competition in the Czech Republic

Following RegioJet, Czech private rail operator Leo Express also plans to run services between Prague and Ostrava – but with new rolling stock.

In December 2012 services are scheduled to start using the new fi ve-car FLIRT multiple unit from Stadler Rail. Reaching a speed of 160 kilometres per hour, the FLIRT trains have a power output of 2,600 kilowatts. Leo

Express will offer three classes of travel: Premium (six seats), Business (19 seats) and Economy (212 seats, including four fold-away seats). Leo Express plans to provide WLAN internet access in the whole train. Given the mainline character of the
service, the train has just four singleleaf doors on each side. There is a wheelchair-accessible vacuum toilet as well as two standard vacuum toilets.

One of the trains is planned to be on display at this year’s InnoTrans.
