China considers more freight transport via Lithuania

China regards positively the issue of transportation of goods to West European countries via the territory of Lithuania, the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications said.

In the nearest future the freight flows should increase. Such opportunities were discussed in Shanghai by Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications, Eligijus Masiulis, and Chinese Vice-Minister for Railways, Hu Yandong.
As Hu Yandong said, due to the large flows of goods between China and Europe, the current situation in transport market should be improved. The strategic aim of China – to increase the amounts of carriage by using regular lines of container trains.

“For a better development of Lithuanian transport infrastructure we are implementing advanced information systems and stimulating interoperability of different transport modes. Therefore, we envisage great perspectives of transport projects’ development, enabling the connection of the Baltic Sea with Asia and other regions of East-West Transport Corridor,” said Minister Eligijus Masiulis.
