CAF signs contract for delivery of trams in West Midlands (Great Britain)

Spanish company CAF and Centro, the transport operator in West Midlands shire (western England), have signed a contract for the delivery of Urbos 3 trams.

The order concerns 25 new trams and is estimated at around GBP 40 Million (EUR 49 Million). New rolling stock will replace the 16 Ansaldo trams currently in operation and will meet the increasing demand after a new 1.3-km extension will be put in service.

The new trams will have five wagons, a capacity of 200 seats, special places for disabled people, closed circuit cameras and passenger information systems. The trams will be capable to run starting with 2014.
